Twenty-eight years and counting. That’s how long Pizza Mondo has been honored as Bend’s Best Pizza, and we couldn’t be more grateful. We are so honored to be considered such a staple in this community and love being a small thread of the fabric that makes Bend such an amazing place. Pizza Mondo | Bend
An iconic Central Oregon eatery, Pizza Mondo has been a downtown fixture for more than 25 years, welcoming guests with slices and whole pies to calzones, salads, breadsticks and garlic knots. At Pizza Mondo, the dough starts with live cake yeast. “It gives the crust that toothy first bite,” said co-owner Steven Koch, “but the center stays soft and airy.” Known for fast lines and hoard-worthy garlic knots, Pizza Mondo has been slinging slices downtown since 1996. Pies come and go, but the Bella Luna, a roasted potato white pie, has held its spot on the menu since day one. Another pizza with a loyal following is the Big Island, a tangle of pulled pork, bacon, pineapple and Mama Lil’s peppers that proves pizza can do anything. For a rewarding post-adventure treat, indulge in the “After Mountain Special,” which is a carb-laden take on the idea of happy hour–get two slices with bottomless soda for $8, or swap in a pint for an additional $2.

When it comes to Readers’ Choice Awards and pizza, it seems there is only one choice, Pizza Mondo. The downtown Bend pizza nook has become a veritable institution by serving up amazingly consistent and creative pies, delivered in a hip atmosphere that bustles with urban energy. It’s been this way since founders John Picarazzi and Steve Koch opened Pizza Mondo in 1996. Other pizza joints have come and mostly gone, but Mondo remains an essential part of Bend’s dining scene—no matter how you slice it.

Voted Best Pizza in our Best Of readers’ poll 21 years running, Pizza Mondo has been serving up Bend’s most loved pizza since 1998 and it continues to do it their way, while keeping an eye on the needs of the pizza patron. Options include gluten-free, home delivery, and well-loved After Mountain and Twilight Specials. All pies are hand tossed, made from scratch and baked in gas-fired hearth ovens.

Pizza Mondo opened its doors 21 years ago and is owned by John Picarazzi, Cliff Triplett and Steve Koch.
“I think our success hinges on the quality of our people and the quality of our products. Our goal is to get it right every time,” Picarazzi said. “Sometimes that’s hard to do out of a little pizza shop, and we might not get it right every time, but we certainly try.”
The sole shop is located in downtown Bend. Every pizza pushed over the counter or delivered via driver is made from scratch.
